Brook: Khan talking 'rubbish'

Kell Brook hits back at Amir Khan as argument rages about their elusive British battle

Kell Brook insists Amir Khan is 'running scared' after his bitter rival told him to wait longer for their elusive British battle. The Sheffield man retained his IBF welterweight title with a sixth round stoppage of Frankie Gavin on Saturday night, but admitted afterwards that any hopes of a future showdown with Khan are fading fast.

A bumper domestic showdown has failed to materialise, with Brook's promoter Eddie Hearn suggesting that he cannot make any headway in talks, while Khan instead is focusing his efforts on Floyd Mayweather, claiming that he is closing in on a lucrative clash.   Brook cannot understand why the former light-welterweight world champion would not want to fight for a title in another division and has dismissed his chances of landing a meeting with Mayweather.

Brook: Khan is running scared He told Sky Sports News HQ: "I think he’s full of rubbish. If there is a world title on the line, any fighter that lives with a pair of gloves wants to fight for a world title. "There is no bigger fight in Britain than me and Khan, it sells any arena out. It doesn’t make any sense to me at all, so he’s got to be running scared. "There is no chance of him getting the Floyd Mayweather fight. He’s done nothing to merit that fight. Every time he’s stepped up, he’s got knocked out. I don’t know why he’s playing these games."  Khan had earlier laughed off claims that he was avoiding Brook, but admitted he was not interested in a fight against his bitter foe in the near future.  At the moment I have a different route. I’m going to America and selling out arenas, beating their big names, so I’m not scared. Amir Khan “I think everyone realises that Amir Khan is never scared about fighting anyone,” he told Sky Sports News HQ. “I’ve fought everyone that’s been put in front of me – and I will fight anyone who is put in front of me. “At the moment I have a different route. I’m going to America and selling out arenas, beating their big names, so I’m not scared. “If the fight between Kell and I happens, then my team will put it together, but at the moment I have no interest in it.”
